I’m a professional!

Predictably, the most popular of my photos are of my daughter as friends and family rushed to take a look at the wee bundle of joy. However, the most popular non-Clara picture is this one of ‘Nipper’, the HMV/RCA dog statue in Bristol, viewed over 100 times this year.

However, in breaking news, I’m delighted to say that one of my photos has been chosen for a calendar of Bristol which means that I’m a professional photographer! And yes, you betcha, ‘course it’s going to be added to my CV!

Congratulations, always a bit of a thrill when someone wants to publish one of your Flickr pictures. Actually some pretty large organisations are now using it to source pictures so I’ve had what were really holiday snaps picked up by magazines in Canada, and at one point I even bailed out Mac Format with a couple of snaps I took of MacExpo with my mobile when their photographer didn’t show up.

A lot of them specifically look for ones with a CC copyright, so if you want to maximise your chances then you should set pictures to that rather than all rights reserved. I’m wondering though how long it will be before Flickr implements some sort of infrastructure to allow users to sell their work, making a user driven stock picture archive.
